HELP OPEN DOORS TO INDEPENDENCE

Ariel is 45 and still lives at home. Finally, he has a path forward.

Through Le Bayit, a life skills training program in a simulated duplex, Ariel—and many others like him—can gain the skills to live more independently.

MEET ARIEL AND HIS MOM RISSA

After more than a decade on a waitlist for housing, Ariel is ready to take the next step. “Let’s do it,” he says.

WHAT IS LE BAYIT?

Le Bayit is a housing readiness program based in a renovated duplex, where participants come for overnight stays and build the life skills they need to live more independently.

Through hands-on learning, participants develop essential skills, including:

  • cooking and meal planning
  • cleaning and household routines
  • personal care and hygiene
  • communication and social skills
  • managing time, daily schedules, transportation and basic budgets

Participants–and their families– build relationships with others in the program, developing a sense of community. Families learn how to better support their adults.

SUPPORTED HOUSING IS ALREADY UNDERWAY

Alink’s housing program “has been nothing short of transformative.”- a sibling

Many adults like Ariel have been waiting years for housing that doesn’t exist. That’s finally starting to change.

In early 2026, Alink launched its first group of supported apartments, a partnership with the CIUSSS West-Central Montreal. Four young adults are living in their own apartments and sharing support from Alink educators. This first initiative—called the Arlene Fels Housing POD in honor of a major donor—is just the beginning. Alink is developing many more PODS™ (Planned Opportunities for Development and Support), or groups of supported apartments, with a goal of providing supervised housing for 40 neurodivergent adults by 2030.

WHY LE BAYIT MATTERS

Many neurodivergent adults are capable of greater independence—but need time, repetition and ongoing support to build and maintain essential life skills.

Families have been instrumental in creating Le Bayit but cannot sustain it alone. Independence depends on a lasting system of support that extends beyond any one household.

Together, we are creating that system—one that outlives families and ensures opportunities for years to come.

A COMMUNITY EFFORT

Le Bayit is the result of years of collaboration among community partners.

“It was government, foundations, community organizations, individuals working well together, committed parents and community residents that have made this great thing happen,” says Dominique McCaughey, COO of the Azrieli Foundation, lead funder of the Le Bayit pilot. “This is a model of how an inclusive community should work, and I’m delighted that the Azrieli Foundation is leading this transformative project.”
